A Tasty Travel in Gastronomy Festival
Once again, on our holidays, we enjoyed a travel to Lefkada’s tastes. This time, it was the 6th gastronomy festival of Lefkas. In particular this year, the local community dedicated the festival to the local honey. In fact, this tasty event takes place every year and aims to present to the visitors the local tastes of the island. However the local administration prompt and other international kitchens to take part in the event.
The Local Honey of Lefkas – Unique Product
The local honey comes from thyme mainly from Athani and Dragano villages. For this reason it has a unique taste and fragrance. Actually it is a pure natural product. It is completely free of defects and chemicals. Last but not least it contains lots of antioxidants which means many beneficial effects on heart’s health. Also every year, in August, the producers of honey organize in Dragano village a local feast. There the visitor has the chance to see the whole production procedure. Also you can buy local honey in reasonable prices. Later you can end up dancing by hearing Greek folklore music.
Local and International Recipes
But the most important part of the event is the presence of popular Greek Chefs. Along with their students they prepare local recipes. In particular they cook traditional recipes like sofigado and cuttlefish black rice. So it’s a real experience during your summer holidays to taste the local food. Moreover another reason to visit is the big international participation. So far nine countries with their volunteers present their specialities which is something really impressive. For this reason the festival becomes an international feast of tastes. In particular, the island’s visitors have the chance to discover another side of their travel. Finally, we are looking forward to tasting Lefkada’s flavors for the next year. In summer of 2020 it will be the 7th consecutive festival.
