3 Best Picturesque Seaside Villages 2 Visit in Lefkas
Going back in time Lefkada or Lefkas until the middle of 80s was an unknown island to the rest of the world. Only a glimpse of popularity that was once in the headline news. It was in 1968 when Onassis, the ex owner of Skorpios private island, married Jacqueline Kennedy. And this because Jacqueline was the First Lady of United States 5 years before that marriage. In other words, Lefkada was an unspoiled island and it still is in some areas. Of course, it’s a matter of time for the future visitors to discover either the paths on its magic mountains or the secluded inlets on its beaches. Today, fishing, agriculture and cattle farming have been replaced by any kind of business related to tourism. For this reason, old fish villages have become very much touristic in the summer. However some of them still keep their traditional character. For example if a house needs renovation this will happen mainly in its interior. But which are the best picturesque seaside villages in Lefkada?
Agios Nikitas, A Picturesque Old Fish Village
Situated on the northwest coast of the island Agios Nikitas is a beautiful picturesque village to explore. A narrow paved road crosses the village and leads to a small sandy beach. Cosy bars, shops and romantic taverns are on your way to this little beach. However in August this beach is full of people. So it’s better to swim on Milos beach, an unspoiled so far beach just beside the village. You can go there either by foot or by boat from this small beach.
See you in Nikiana for lunch or dinner
Situated on the east coast of the island Nikiana was a big fish village of Lefkada. In its little port and beach you can find seafront taverns to enjoy a family lunch or dinner. Also there are cosy seaside bars to enjoy an aperitif in the evening.
Sivota, A Picturesque Safe Yachts’ Harbor
Situated on the southeast coast, Sivota is a closed and a very safe harbour for yachts. After all, sailing around the islets of Lefkas is something very popular in the summer. In the past all the locals in Sivota were fishermen. Today there are many waterfront fish taverns and cosy bars to enjoy a fish dinner and a cool aperitif respectively.
