Lefkada, the ideal town for cycling !!
If you are a cycling fan and you are looking for a place that offers many options to explore by bike then Lefkada is an ideal destination for you. A nice and very easy ride is around the lagoon of the town. Starting from Santa Maura castle to the beaches of Kastro, Yira, Mili and Agios Ioannis and back to Lefkada town.
The lagoon of Lefkada is in NATURA 2000 network. It is a protected area of great ecological importance. Also, it is a migratory station for several birds. If you are lucky during your cycling tour you will see swans, herons, ducks even flamingos !!
Another option for a road cycling ride but more difficult is from the town to Frini village and Faneromeni monastery on the hill and from there to Agios Nikitas village. However, if you prefer mountain biking there are many clubs in the island that organize countryside journeys. Some of the best mountain bike rides are in Melissa gorge in Sfakiotes and in Charadiatika village. Also, Dimossari gorge with its lovely waterfalls
and Kerasia springs in Syvros village are ideal to explore by bike.
This summer there was a bikes exhibition in the island and now all the exhibits are in the Zampelion mansion. Also, If you are lucky you might see antique bikes either in town or in some picturesque villages of the island.

Finally, in case you don’t want to bring your bike with you there are many agencies to rent a good one in the island.
